We need your ideas for how the Kuna School District can continue to save money. News reports from around the state have confirmed what many of us already know--the state budget will be incredibly tight this year. High unemployment combined with slow retail sales has reduced state revenue. Recent District budget projections based upon proposed state budgets indicate a $3.8M budget cut for the 2010-2011 school year.
Any decrease in funding is hard for a school district to accommodate, but a 14% decrease is incredibly challenging. The district’s goal is to reduce the budget a manner that will maintain the highest levels of student achievement.
In 2009, the Kuna School District received approximately $1.6 million less from the state. The district addressed last year’s budget cuts through a combination of efforts from our community and employees.
This year even more ideas to save money will be necessary as we face $3.8 million in less revenue. To address this issue, the Kuna School District is requesting input from the community, students, and staff. Budget saving ideas can be posted to the District’s news site by clicking on the Budget Submission graphic or by clicking here.
All ideas submitted through the web site will be reviewed by the appropriate school administrator, or department supervisor. Each manager will review proposals and determine the impact of the suggestion. This impact will range from determining the amount of costs saving, cost of implementation, ethical and legal implications, and impact to the base quality of education.
All suggestions are then forwarded to the District’s Budget Reduction Team. The Budget Reduction Team is comprised of a diverse number of individuals from all areas of the District and the community. This team will research and review all suggestions and make final recommendations to the school board in June.
